Navigating Self-Care and Resilience During Times of Devastation

Hi friends,


I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles and the heartbreak so many are experiencing right now.


First, please know that our hearts are with everyone affected — the people, pets, wildlife, and the natural beauty of California that has suffered so much. Many have lost their homes, cherished belongings, and even entire communities. It’s a time of immense grief, and while Californians are resilient, the journey to recovery will be long. Let’s continue to hold them in our hearts and prayers, sending wishes for safety, healing, and an end to these fires.


In light of these events, I wanted to reflect on how we navigate the steps of this program in the face of such overwhelming adversity. When tragedy strikes, self-care practices like meditation, breathwork, and mindfulness might feel trivial or even impossible. It’s okay to feel that way.


Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is allow ourselves to feel — to sit with the sadness, anger, or hopelessness and let those emotions flow through us. There is no “right” way to cope during times like this.


If you feel up to it, even the smallest steps toward self-care can make a difference. Taking a moment to breathe, journal, or move your body isn’t about fixing what’s happening — it’s about creating a bit of steadiness within yourself. This steadiness can help you be more present for others, support your community, or simply face each day with a little more resilience.


As you move through this week’s practices, I encourage you to hold Los Angeles in your heart and send thoughts of comfort and strength to those in need.


And remember, you are not alone in your feelings. We are all connected, and your care for yourself contributes to the collective healing we all need.

Beautifully said Nichole. I know everyone is feeling the grief and enormity of what LA is experiencing. Let’s take the positive self-care modalities we have learned this week to create a huge, positive energy force that can reach all those in need.
